Sam Sparro To Get IPIA Treatment

Chart-topping Australian singer Sam Sparro is getting the It's Pop It's Art treatment.

We're currently hard at work creating a design based on the lyrics to his no. 1 hit Black And Gold.

The print is due to be launched at our Hidden Depths event at New Cross' Amersham Arms on 18 Sep. The event will feature a number of top designers discussing music and design as well as a live performance from a special guest. We can't tell you who it is as it's top secret (but we just hope he likes the print!)

See the post dated 29 Jul below for further details or visit the Hidden Depths site for tickets.

It's Pop It's Art Design Competition

It's Pop It's Art have teamed up with lovely Spanish beer San Miguel to host a party in September as part of their Hidden Depths season.

We're taking over the Amersham Arms in New Cross on 18 Sep 2008 for an art and pop music special featuring special guest speakers and performers from both worlds. We can't reveal who they are yet, except to say Fred Deakin will be there with both DJ and designer hats on.

Tickets are free and only available by entering the draw on the Hidden Depths website.

In addition the Amersham Arms will play host to the final of our
It's Pop It's Art design competition. We want you to come up with an IPIA style print for Edwin Starr's War.

Details on how to enter and the full design brief and song lyrics can be found on the Hidden Depths website - you will need to register first.

The finalists will have their design printed and exhibited alongside the rest of the IPIA range at the venue, where a winner will be chosen by our guest performers and speaker. The winning designer will receive a cash prize plus their design will become an official part of the IPIA range.

So get registered on the Hidden Depths website and show us your ideas. And we'll see you down in New Cross.

IPIA: Coming To America

Like all great UK acts, there comes a time when you have to take a fateful step and attempt to crack America. This summer It's Pop It's Art is packing its lyrics and heading to the USA for an exciting five-city summer tour.

Taking in Los Angeles, San Francisco, Chicago, Boston and New York we will be taking over a venue in each city for an exhibition of IPIA prints, in collaboration with our friends at Black Swan Wines.

In addition in each city we are inviting a local artist or designer to create their own cover version of one of our prints. Except for in LA, where, in addition to Retna doing Miss You by The Rolling Stones, the brilliant Hit + Run will be taking on a brand new track - N.E.R.D.'s Rockstar. Exciting, non?

We'll hit you with the full details of specific events and venues when they are confirmed, but for now below is the full list of cities, dates and artists.

Wildstyles at PYMCA - opens tonight

Our travelling It's Pop It's Art exhibition has finished its run as part of the PYMCA Gallery's Versus show, but will be returning for Versus II in November. In the meantime PYMCA have a new exhibition opening tonight.

Wildstyles is an exhibition featuring classic rare photographs hailing back to the old skool days of hip-hop and is a homage to Wild Style, the classic hip-hop movie that is being re-released for its 25th anniversary.

There's a private view tonight at the gallery on 27 Clerkenwell Road in London's Farringdon. There will be DJs, breakdancers and graffiti artists there so head along and drink some booze and celebrate the glory days of hip-hop.

Now that's a date for your diaries. For any of you out there who will actually be checking into rehab on Monday, good luck. For the rest of you put down that bottle and check out the brand new It's Pop It's Art print based on the lyrics to Rehab by Amy Winehouse. Above is a sneak preview of just a tiny section of the full design but it should whet your palette ahead of the Monday launch. Enjoy.
